Improving the relevance of care through governance involving patients and caregivers
PROMs registries offer a solution by measuring outcomes reported directly by patients: quality of life, functional recovery.
These indicators reveal the real value of care beyond traditional clinical indicators.
They enable professionals to benchmark themselves against their peers for continuous improvement, authorities to encourage self-regulation among professionals, and patients to engage directly in assessing the appropriateness of care.
A trusted third party to ensure data integrity
The French College of Patient Outcomes is a non-profit association (law 1901) that creates a space for dialogue between healthcare system users and professional organizations. This dialogue enables the adoption of a common methodology to deploy PROMs registries across territories.
The Scientific Councils it leads collegially define methodologies, validate indicators and supervise audits.
This co-construction ensures that the data produced is reliable, transparent and accepted by all.
Association Governance
The French College of Patient Outcomes is a law 1901 association with three-level governance:
- a Steering Committee that manages projects,
- a Scientific Council that defines the methodology and operational development of each registry,
- a Supervisory Council that ensures compliance and prevents conflicts of interest.
The French College of Patient Outcomes involves healthcare professionals, user and patient representatives as well as healthcare system experts in its governance.
Each governance member maintains an updated public declaration of interests and adheres to a common ethical charter.
This architecture guarantees the independence and collegiality of decisions.

The National Cataract Registry measures the relevance of care through a functional recovery score (PROMs) accessible to practitioners and patients.
The objective is to directly involve the patient in care evaluation and enable each surgeon to continuously improve within a national community of practice.
The Registry uses a methodology validated internationally by the European Society of Cataracts & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and the International Consortium for Health Outcome Measurements, (ICHOM).
Since 2020, the Registry has been deployed in partnership with the National Professional Council of Ophthalmology, SAFIR and with the support of France Assos Santé.

Each year in France, nearly 130,000 patients undergo surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome.
The National Carpal Tunnel Registry enables hand surgeons to measure outcomes that matter to their patients — functional recovery (PROMs), relational quality (PREMs), clinical data (CROMs) — and to continuously improve within a national community of practice.
Launched in 2021 with the support of l’Assurance Maladie and France Assos Santé, the Registry aims to mobilize 200 surgeons by the end of 2026.

The perinatal period is crucial for women’s physical and mental health. However, certain dimensions such as mental health, postpartum incontinence and quality of life remain insufficiently evaluated.
In accordance with ICHOM standards, the National Maternity Registry involves patients and obstetric teams in a dynamic of evaluation and continuous improvement.
Deployed since 2024, it benefits from the support of the French National College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (CNGOF), the National College of Midwives of France (CNSF), the Inter-associative Collective Around Birth (CIANE) and France Assos Santé.
